Three of our students have won the prestigious ASEAN Children’s Book Illustration Rising Award 2018

ITB delegations for International Children’s Contest Rights Fair (ICCRF) in Chiang Mai, Thailand have brought home glorious achievements. ICCRF is an annual event that serves as marketplace for content rights related to children and young adult’s book genres in ASEAN. There several main events in this 3-days festivity such as The Copyright Trade Exhibition, Keynote Session, Free Forums, ASEAN Illustration Award, Workshops, Business Matching, and Big Bad Wolf.


There were four award categories for this year ASEAN Illustration Award; The ASEAN Children’s Book Illustrator Award of Excellence, The ASEAN Children’s Book Illustrator Best in Fiction, The ASEAN Children’s Book Illustrator Best in Non-fiction, and The ASEAN Children’s Book Illustrator Rising Star Award (total 5 awards for this category). Ms. Aurora Arazzi, Ms. Kidung Kinanti, and Ms. Mika Reksowardojo are 3 of ITB delegations who have won the prestigious ASEAN Children’s Book Illustration Rising Award and were granted $500 each as the winning prize. These three talented students successfully competed with other professional illustrators from all over ASEAN and proved their reputation.

Ms. Aurora Arazzi, a final year printmaking student from ITB’s Fine Art and Design Faculty. She is currently very interested in the lithography technique. She found this technique to be the closest with her artistic approach which is drawing. Ms Aurora said that she wants to make adult children’s book in the future. She believes that even an adult still has that childish side inside and her artworks are the medium to evoke that feeling.


Including in the series of the events, the Indonesian Pavilion also participated in the ICCRF. ITB’s Visual Communication Design Studio was actively contributed as co-exhibitors. Representative from ITB were two assistant professors, Ms. Novita Elisa Fahmi and Ms. Refita Ika Indrayati. They brought related graphic design works to the event with other exhibitors from Indonesia and all over the world.

“There were some publishers and agencies who are interested in doing collaboration for Children’s Book and Illustration course next year,” said Ms. Novita Elisa Fahmi after attended the business matching program. She brought the ideas of international collaboration to international audiences from 19 different publishers from ASEAN and Europe.

Children’s Book and Illustration is one of the course under Visual Communication Design study program which aims to teach students on how to create children’s picture book from scratch. The main teaching process are divided into two continuous stages consist of theoretical sessions and practical sessions (dummy creations with mentors from the related industry). In this course, students are expected to actively involved in the research process, exhibitions, and real-life-application.

Delegasi ITB dalam International Children’s Contest Rights Fair (ICCRF) di Chiang Mai, Thailand telah berhasil membawa pulang prestasi yang membanggakan. ICCRF adalah acara tahunan yang merupakan wadah bertemunya para pembuat konten yang berhubungan dengan literatur anak dan dewasa muda. Dalam 3 hari acara tersebut, terdapat beberapa sub-acara seperti pameran, ajang perhargaan, lokakarya, forum bebas, dan lain-lain.


Tiga mahasiswa dari Fakutas Seni Rupa dan Desain ITB yakni Aurora Arazzi, Kidung Kinanti, dan Mika Reksowardojo masing-masing telah berhasil membawa pulang Children’s Book Illustration Rising Award dan mendapatkan hadiah sebesar $500 perorangnya. Mereka telah berhasil berkompetisi dengan para illustrator professional dari ASEAN yang sudah memiliki jam terbang yang tinggi. Para juri di ajang ICCRF tersebut mengatakan bahwa ilustrator Indonesia memiliki bakat dan keahlian yang sangat mumpuni, hal tersebut terbukti dari berhasil dibawa pulangnya 3 dari 8 penghargaan yang ada.

Paviliun Indonesia juga turut berpartisipasi dalam ajang eksebisi di ICCRF. DKV ITB bersama dengan aneka penerbit, agensi, universitas, dan komisi buku nasional turut membawa beragam hasil karya anak bangsa yang berkaitan dengan buku anak dan dewasa muda. Novita Elisa Fahmi dan Refita Ika Indrayati adalah dua asisten dosen yang menjadi perwakilan DKV ITB di Paviliun Indonesia. Mereka membawa dan menjelaskan tentang karya dan tugas akhir mahasiswa FSRD ITB selama acara tersebut.

Novita juga mengikuti acara business matching di ICCRF. Dalam acara business matching tersebut, Novita menyatakan bahwa ada beberapa penerbit dan agensi dari luar negeri yang tertarik dengan beberapa ilustrator dari kelas Ilustrasi dan Desain Buku Anak ITB. Kelas Ilustrasi dan Desain Buku Anak sendiri adalah salah satu mata kuliah umum pada jurusan DKV ITB yang bertujuan untuk mengajarkan tentang cara mendisain sebuah buku anak dari awal hingga menjadi sebuah buku yang rampung. Dalam kuliah tersebut, selain diajarkan tentang teori, diajarkan pula sesi yang praktikal seperti membuat dummy dengan arahan mentor yang ahli di bidang tersebut.
